Rectal prolapse befalls when the rectum drop away (falls and comes through) the anal opening. There are primarily 3 types of rectal prolapse.

Types of prolapsed rectum

There are three categories of prolapsed rectum:

1. Partial prolapse (also called mucosal prolapse). The lining (mucous membrane) of the rectum slithers out of place and habituallyrods out of the anus. This can occur when you strain to have a bowel movement. Partial prolapse is most common in kids younger than 2 years.

2. Complete prolapse. The whole wall of the rectum slithers out of place and generallybranches out of the anus. At first, this may happen only during bowel movements. Ultimately, it might occur when you stand or walk. And in some circumstances, the prolapsed tissue may remain outside your body incessantly.

3. Internal prolapse (intussusception). One portion of the wall of the large intestine (colon) or rectum may slither into or over another part, like the foldaway parts of a toy telescope. The rectum does not thrust out of the anus. Intussusception is most commonly found in kids and it seldom affects adults. In kids, the cause is generally not much known. In grown-ups, it is usually connected to another intestinal problem, such as a development of tissue in the wall of the intestines (such as a polyp or tumor).
